The Lexar Jumprive S80: A Reliable Thumb Drive with Room for Improvement

The Lexar Jumprive S80 is a standard thumb drive offering 128GB storage capacity, 150 Mbps speed, and USB 3.1 compatibility. It is compatible with both macOS and Windows operating systems. However, one drawback is that it lacks a USB Type-C option, limiting its versatility.

During testing, the thumb drive performed well on both macOS and Windows platforms. It smoothly handled file transfers, maintaining a steady bitrate throughout the process. Its read/write speeds and overall performance are on par with other thumb drives in the market.

The Lexar Jumprive S80 is available in various storage capacities ranging from 32GB to 256GB. The starting price for the lowest-storage option is Rs 420, which offers a reasonable value proposition.

The main downside of this thumb drive is its lack of versatility due to the absence of a USB Type-C connector. In today’s day and age where USB Type-C ports are common, many laptops only have this type of port. Users with such laptops would need to purchase an adapter to use the Lexar Jumprive S80. It would have been beneficial for the thumb drive to include a USB Type-C connector as an optional port to cater to a wider range of devices.

While understanding the rationale behind including a Type-A connector, which is widely used in most laptops, the absence of a Type-C option limits the drive’s potential and excludes a significant portion of users.

In conclusion, the Lexar Jumprive S80 is a reliable thumb drive with decent read/write speeds and reliable performance. However, the lack of a USB Type-C option is a disappointment. Considering its reasonable price point, it still offers a good value proposition for those who can work with its limitations.
